Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 School Year!

Announcing our new Star Rating:

The Division of Child Development has awarded HPMS a 4 Star Rating based on our educational and program standards. It has taken us many years to achieve this rating, and we are very grateful to all our staff and all the help we have received from CCR&R,  the Children and Youth Partnership, and our licensing consultant, Marjorie White. We have steadily increased the education level of all our staff at the Herbert Perry Road location, and this is a well deserved advancement. Our staff is totally dedicated to continuing their education in order to be able to provide the best environment for your children. Congratulations!

Enrollment update:

We are currently full in our full day classroom, and our K-1 classroom, and are calling people on our waiting list and scheduling tours for rolling enrollment if space becomes available.

We will begin enrollment in January 2012 for summer and the 2012-2013 school year.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in HPMS, please call 261-7891 for a tour.

We currently have 2 locations in Kitty Hawk.  3910 Poor Ridge Road, and 831 W. Kitty Hawk Road (on the corner of Herbert Perry and Kitty Hawk Road.)

Dr. Montessori has always stated in her books on early childhood education that children need to spend a great deal of time outdoors and that they need to feel connected to nature and learn to respect the earth and all the wondrous life that exists. Peace begins with the children, and she felt that if they were to develop an understanding of how special life and the planet are, that they would grow up to be responsible, caring adults. We are fortunate to be able to participate in the POD project at our Herbert Perry Road campus.

Thank you Children and Youth Partnership and Child Care Resource and Referral for this awesome program! I will keep you updated on this.

We have built a large planting bed for a Sensory garden and have the bike path in place. Feel free to donate plants or stop by anytime to join the children in caring for the garden. We love help!!!

Welcome to Heron Pond Montessori School – Preschool and Elementary.

We are glad that you are interested in knowing more about the Montessori method of education and our school. Montessori is a philosophy with the fundamental tenet that a child learns best within a social environment which supports each individuals unique development.

Dr. Maria Montessori, the creator of what is called “The Montessori Method of Education”, based this new education on her scientific observations of young children and their behavior. As the first woman to graduate from the University of Rome, Maria Montessori became involved in education and opened her first school in 1907, in the San Lorenzo district of Rome.

She carried her message throughout the world, including the United States as early as 1912. The American Montessori Society was formed in 1960, and the number of schools all across the world has continually increased, as parents have come to understand the value of such an educational experience  for their children. The early years for children are the most important in their development as a human being. To have a positive, nurturing, educationally based environment that encourages the child to develop to their full potential allows the child to gain self confidence in their ability to tackle new challenges, develop a love of learning, and develop life long skills that will enable them to be more successful as they continue to grow.

Please feel free to call us with questions @ 252-261-7891, and to schedule a tour of our classrooms.
